 "Mushin"  "No Mind" describes a state where the archer can shoot with effortless automaticity. No-mind does not, however, mean ‘unthinking’, but rather not engaging in mental reflection while performing the shot, you are just aware and in the moment. Mushin and flow both reflect a state of self-aware activity in which intention and action are aligned without the need for conscious reflection. Awareness is the key, as it is mindful (i.e.self-aware), rather than mindless (i.e. unthinking) automaticity. Fundamentally, if you are able to focus on the moment during shooting, rather than getting distracted by a previous mistake or possible outcome, you are more likely to ‘get in the zone’.  

The Mushin Styk is a backset ASL with amazing cast and an incredibly smooth draw cycle to beyond 31" on the 66" model and beyond 32" on the 68"

I designed the Mushin Styk in a CAD program and cut and built the form on my CNC machine to achieve a perfect curve in the backset, which translates into very efficient limbs with incredible cast! After being glued up on the perfect form, the bow is entirely machine by CNC.

A standard Mushin Styk will be made with colored glass of your choice on the back and belly, a beautiful Osage riser and 4 layers of bamboo for the cores, giving it a silky smooth draw cycle, great cast and fast arrow speeds.  This bow throws an arrow with great cast and its performance excels with heavy arrows. All Mushin Styks will come standard with a leather grip and reinforced tips, built with tip wedges, to allow for use of modern sting materials.  All bows shipped with a D-97 string with wool silencers & double adjustable tie nocks. 

The Mushin Styk can be ordered with the Yukon Take-Down System (info below) - this takedown system requires a G-10 riser which allows the the shelf to be cut to center.

G-10 is also an option which allows me to cut the shelf to center, which provides a very large window of tune and makes the bow very forgiving. G-10 also adds a significant amount of mass.

The Mushin Styk starts at $850 and can be upgraded to clear glass for an additional $100 and add beautiful veneers for the veneer price, which can be found on the Wood Options page.  Other upgrades available include, exotic wood species, phenolic accents added to risers,  etc.  Riser wood pricing on the Wood Options page.

***G-10 risers (whether in a 1 pc or take-down) allow me to cut the shelf to center.   If you choose a G-10 riser cutting to center will be standard, however you can choose to leave it 5/32" outside center like a wood riser if you wish.***

Cutting to center drastically opens up your window of tune making the bow much more forgiving of any form flaws or variations.

Draw Weight Tolerance

I do a very good job at hitting draw weight but in order to achieve optimum performance please allow plus or minus 1# of your requested draw weight.  Most often I will hit the weight you request but grinding down to the desired weight, as some others do, is not ideal.  It hinders performance and can hurt the integrity of the bow.  Thus my policy is that if I miss weight by more than 1# I rebuild the bow  and hit the weight you requested .  Example:  if you order a bow 45# @ 28", please allow 44#-46#.
